NO matter how trendy a makeup technique or product is, it has the potential to age you.
Beauty guru Jodi Mannes, whose YouTube is dedicated to giving older women tips that will make them feel and look beautiful, detailed some makeup mistakes that can make you look older.
on a youtube video Uploaded to his 10k subscribers, Mannes shared how to apply makeup in an age-appropriate way, revealing what ages him instantly.
You may not be using the right products for your skin type, according to the makeup guru.
First, you need to identify the problem areas on your skin, and then go from there. For example, you are going to use a different product on the dry areas of your skin than on the oilier areas.
Mannes said, “You’re going to want to add primer to any areas that are more likely to be oily on your skin.”
APPLICATION OF FULL COVERAGE FOUNDATION ON WRINKLES
Instead of applying full coverage foundation where you have wrinkles, Mannes likes to blend foundation with a La Roche-Posay Daily Moisturizer.
She says that as you get older, this will keep you from looking cakey.
DO NOT USE A CREAM OR LIQUID FOUNDATION FOUNDATION
According to Mannes, cream or liquid foundation formulas are best for mature skin.
You don’t want to use a powder foundation because powders tend to be more drying and can form lines and wrinkles.
Powders in general should be used sparingly as you age.
If you are using it to combat oily skin, be sure to apply powder only to the areas of the face that are oily, and not all over the face.
POWDER FIXING MAKEUP
Since the use of powder should be kept to a minimum, instead of setting your face with powder, you should use an alcohol-free setting spray, according to Mannes.
USE A CONTOUR OR TANNER WHERE YOUR FACE IS NOT COMPLETE
As you age, your skin produces less collagen. This can result in hollow areas on the face, for example at the temples.
It can be tempting to contour or tan in areas like this, but Mannes says you should avoid it, as it actually emphasizes these areas that are less full.
To make these sections appear fuller, you can apply a concealer that is lighter than your skin.
PUTTING BLUSH ON THE APPLES OF YOUR CHEEKS
You shouldn’t put blush directly on the apples of your cheeks.
“The apple-of-the-cheek look is a youthful look. So if you’re older and you’re trying to blush like a young child, it just won’t look right,” Mannes explained.
Instead, you should use a cream blush (better for mature skin than powder blush) right in the center of the eye and up.
PUT MASK ON LOWER LASHES
“When you put that mascara on the bottom of your lashes, it makes them look heavy and heavy,” the makeup genius explained.
“So if you’re trying to minimize the look of aging, I’d strongly suggest only applying mascara to your top lashes and not your bottom lashes.”
PUT A BRIGHT SHADOW UNDER THE BROWN BONE
Instead of putting a shimmery eyeshadow under your brow bone, you should put a concealer or matte powder instead.
PUT DARK EYELINER ON YOUR WATERLINE
According to Mannes, you shouldn’t apply dark eyeliner directly to your waterline.
“It just ages your eye,” he said. “It’s such an old-fashioned look.”
If you can’t get rid of the technique and still want to achieve the striking contrast that eyeliner gives on your waterline, you should go for a lighter color.
LINE YOUR LIPS WITH A DARK LIP LINER
Mannes says you should only line your lips with a liner no more than two shades darker than your lip gloss or lipstick if you don’t want to look like you’re stuck in the 1990s.
USING LIQUID AND MATTE LIP COLORS
Instead of using a matte lipstick or liquid lip color, the makeup expert likes to layer lip gloss over her lip liner and lipstick for a nice finish.
