The Spring Fire Department will offer free child safety seat safety checks at the Spring 70 Fire Station from 3 to 6 pm on April 8. Security screenings are by appointment only.

Church introduces Lenten fried fish dinner to go

St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church is hosting a Lenten Fish Fry Dinner from 5:30 to 7:15 pm on April 8. Plates are $15, a side of shrimp is $4.

Guests can order a fish dish, shrimp dish or shrimp side dish online and then pick up the plates to go the night of dinner. Proceeds benefit the church’s youth ministry.

Local quilt show returns to church

The Piecemakers of Klein United Methodist Church presents its annual “Joy of Quilting” quilt show from 10 am to 3 pm on April 8 and 9 at the church. Admission is $5 or five cans of food for the church food pantry.

More than 100 of the group’s favorite quilts will be on display and vendors and club members will offer items for sale.

Food drive benefits local families

Scouts BSA Troops 1811 and 1812 and Klein High School Space Force JROTC will be collecting non-perishable food items in local neighborhoods and at the Klein ISD Police Department from 9 am to 1 pm on April 9.

The group is seeking donations of non-perishable food, general school supplies, baby care items and feminine hygiene items to benefit Bundles of Hope, which maintains a food pantry at the Fellowship of Champions Church in Klein. The organization provides assistance to the elderly and families of Klein ISD.

Ernie Haase & Signature Sound and Legacy Five will perform at 4 pm on April 9 at Spring Baptist Church. Tickets are $25.

From Ohio, Ernie Haase & Signature Sound is a pioneering gospel quartet that has been nominated for Grammy Awards and won GMA Dove Awards. Legacy Five opens in Tennessee. The performance is presented by the Dignity Gospel Quartet, a nonprofit organization that organizes and schedules local Christian performances.

The American Association of Business Women’s Cy-Fair Express network presents its Fashion Show & Tea Party from 10 am to 12 pm on April 9 at Houston’s Skyline Displays. Tickets are $30.

The event also features a purse raffle. Proceeds benefit scholarships for local women.

John Berry performs at Main Street Crossing

Singer-songwriter John Berry performs at Main Street Crossing in Tomball at 7 pm on April 9. Tickets start at $37.

Beatles tribute band The Fab 5 performs at 6 pm at Lone Pint Brewery in Magnolia on April 16.

Former election official to speak to Democrats

Cypress-Tomball Democrats will meet virtually at 6:30 p.m. on April 18 via Zoom.

The featured speaker scheduled for this month is Isabel Longoria, who will discuss changes to voter registration and voting by mail procedures. Longoria, a Houstonian who has worked for AARP, the Office of State Senator Sylva R. Garcia and the Office of State Representative Jessica Farrar, was named Harris County’s first elections administrator in November 2020.
