My most prized possession? All the birthday cards in my fridge’

Charlotte Carpentier began her dance journey in the small town of Cambrai, France, when she was 5 years old. Twenty years later, she is now a professional dancer with Malta’s leading dance company, Moveo.

What is the first thing you do when you wake up in the morning?

Coffee and video call with my mom. Since she is in France and I am here, we get into the habit of having breakfast together to talk about literally anything.

What is the best advice you have received?

Stay humble – “Do your projects quietly and success will take care of the noise. “I have no idea who said that to me, but that phrase resonates with me every day.

What do you never leave home with?

I can’t leave the house without wearing deodorant or perfume.

Certain. Sensitive. Funny (for those who understand my sarcasm).

What do you consider to be your greatest achievement?

Being able to become a professional dancer is my greatest achievement since I come from a small town where nobody believed that it could be a job.

What is your guilty pleasure?

All the food delivery apps are ruining my life.

What is the most important lesson that life has taught you?

Don’t give up when life doesn’t go as planned. When one door closes, there are a million doors open!

Real estate and cars aside, what’s the most expensive thing you’ve ever bought?

I never buy anything expensive, so I guess it must be my phone.

What do you wish you knew when you were younger?

To keep my innocence as long as possible. Life is never easier than when you are a child.

Who is your inspiration?

My inspirations change often, but now I would say Chloe Albaret, who is a dancer with the Nederlands Dance Theatre. I love her humility even though she is one of the best and most versatile dancers I have ever seen.

What has been your biggest challenge?

I write these responses with everyone talking around me. I can’t concentrate with the noise; I need complete silence.

If you weren’t a dancer, what would you be doing?

Unrealistically, a singer. Realistically, I’m very interested in fashion, so why not?

Believe in God?

Give me proof that people who believe in God live better and I will!

If you could have dinner with anyone, living or dead, who would it be?

What is your worst habit?

To bite nails.

How are you when you’re drunk?

Honest. And very energetic.

Who would you like to play you in a movie?

Saoirse Ronan, but only if my boyfriend can be played by Timothée Chalamet.

What is the trait you most deplore in others?

Hypocrisy and lack of generosity.

What music would you have played at your funeral?

“Amen Omen” – Ben Harper, I want everyone to cry like in the movies.

What is your most prized material possession?

All the birthday cards on my fridge were written to me by family and friends.

What is your first memory?

He was probably four years old. I was watching my sister’s dance show and I saw that choreography with girls dressed as Minnie Mouse and I fell in love. The following year, my mom enrolled me in dance school and I cried a lot when I realized that the choreography changed every year and that I was not going to dance the “Minnie” piece.

When did you last cry, and why?

Three days ago. Stress.

Who would you like to meet?

All our political leaders to ask them why they keep destroying humanity.

What is your favorite food?

Tartiflette. It is a French meal with potatoes, fresh cream, onion, bacon and Reblochon. Highly recommended for dancers.

Who is your favorite person on social media right now?

Doc Cody. He’s a chiropractor and listening to him break people down relaxes me.

If you could travel through time, where would you go?

1920 in Paris, the crazy years, the Moulin Rouge, freedom!

What book are you reading now?

Trust me, I wish I could find the time and motivation to start a book.

If you could have any superpower, what would it be?

To be invisible.

What do you want to do before you die?

A great trip with my family away from drama, stress and full of adventures.

What music are you listening to right now?

The Eurovision songs “Boys Do Cry” by Marius Bear and “Saudade saudade” by MARO. They were robbed!

In the shower or when you exercise, what do you sing/listen to?

“Be Alive” – Beyonce or “Lay all your love on me” – Mamma Mia version.
