- Stop & Shop has launched a new savings initiative, called Deal Lock, which extends sales on select items “for a couple of weeks at a time,” according to an emailed press release.
- The program, which began Friday, spans grocery store categories and includes national brands and private labels, according to the announcement. The company highlights Deal Lock programs in its newsletter, with in-store merchandising and a dedicated web page.
- “We’re proud to offer our customers another way to save on the items they want and need, especially during these inflationary times,” Stop & Shop President Gordon Reid said in the announcement. “Combined with our everyday low prices, weekly sale items and loyalty program offers, we’re giving customers the ability to spend less while checking everything on their shopping lists.”
Deal Lock’s debut last week featured dozens of items the grocer says are popular with his customers, with items like select applesauce from Mott, Land O’Lakes Eggs, Nature’s Promise Ground Turkey and Coffee bust it coffee.

Weather Ahold Delhaize did not specify how often new deals will be announced, the press release said new Deal Lock items will be added “frequently.”
Shoppers can claim Deal Lock savings using their Stop & Shop Go Rewards loyalty card at checkout. Deal Lock savings will also be automatically applied to online orders for delivery or pickup.
The grocer is promoting the new savings initiative offline and online, from highlighting the program in his circular to having a “Block offers” page on your site that rounds up eligible articles in all categories. On the Deal Lock website, customers can find out how long offers are valid. Deals currently listed in 15 categories are available through September 6.
In stores, customers can purchase caps and aisle displays with Deal Lock items. Eligible items also have shelf labels indicating that they are part of the Deal Lock. The grocer noted that he will make radio announcements in the store and put up additional signs in the store to let customers know about the program.
Deal Lock joins Stop & Shop’s other savings initiatives, including its loyalty rewards program, coupons and sale items.
The program comes as Stop & Shop looks to improve its performance among Ahold Delhaize’s portfolio of US grocery stores. The brand experienced a decline in market share between the fourth quarters of 2019 and 2021 that the brand has been trying to reverse by focusing on its store remodeling campaign. That campaign appears to be paying off: Stop & Shop fared better in the second quarter, according to Ahold Delhaize’s most recent earnings call earlier this month.
Savings in supermarket aisles have become more important this year to help consumers beat inflation, with stores like Lidl, Giant Eagle and Weis Markets are leaning towards price cuts and rewards. Earlier this month, Walmart launched Walmart Rewards as a new benefit for its Walmart+ membership, and Save Mart launched a rewards program focused on gaming.
