There is no doubt that makeup and beauty products and techniques have the power to transform.
And that transformation is not just physical: cosmetics can change our mood, boost our confidence and have a positive impact on our self-esteem.
So, for the second of her feel-good features, Pippa Lain-Smith picks out some of her favorite beauty products to give you an instant mood boost this summer.
From bright eye and nail colors to understated neutrals for a natural glow.
IPO London was founded by two sisters determined to create a brand that would include all skin tones.
The Spotlight Eyeshadow Palette features 18 colors in a mix of matte, shimmer and metallic finishes.
The selection of colors in this palette is unusual and beautiful, allowing you to create unique looks. I’m lovin ‘it!
Spotlight Palette, OPV Beauty (opvbeauty.com), £29.
If you love pink tones, the chocolate box lollipop of Laroc Pro could be right up your street.
This is a hybrid palette with two huge highlighters and 24 eyeshadows in a mix of matte and metallic textures. It is a delicious looking palette and the colors apply very well.
The Chocolate Box Eyeshadow Collection, Laroc Pro (laroccosmetics.co.uk), £14.95.
BEAUTIFUL CODE has to be one of my favorite beauty brands. CODE has created a capsule collection of makeup products that absolutely deliver what they promise.
Forget false eyelashes is a lash filler prior to mascara that increases the volume of the lashes.
It also contains moisturizing and conditioning ingredients to stimulate lash growth and prevent mascara from flaking and smudging.
CODE FFL Pre Mascara for short lashes, CODE Beautiful (code-beautiful.com), £20.
And the perfect companion for FFL is CODE Volumizing & Lengthening Mascara.
It lives up to its name by giving your lashes extra length and thickness without clumping.
Unlike many mascaras, I don’t find it to smudge and the spoolie shape is designed to help you achieve a curly effect.
CODE VLM, The Ultimate Volumizing & Lengthening Mascara, CODE Beautiful (code-beautiful.com), £22.
liquid glitter shadow is a long lasting liquid eyeshadow sisley paris. Provides a wash of luminous color while smoothing the lids.
Unlike many liquid eyeshadows, it doesn’t sit in the creases of your lids.
You can build coverage to get the intensity you want. Also try using an eyeliner brush for a different look.
Ombre Éclat Liquide 1 Champagne, Sisley Paris (sisley-paris.com), £38.
eco kitchen has long been one of my favorite skincare brands. They have now launched a makeup range that contains a host of beautiful natural and organic ingredients including Vitamin E, Hyaluronic Acid and Niacinamide.
Their single eyeshadows are available in a range of colors and finishes. They are intensely pigmented and blend easily, and this dark brown is quickly becoming my go-to product for creating a crease and adding definition. Ecooking Eyeshadow 1.8g (various shades), lookfantastic.com, £11.
the Eco cooking lipstick It’s infused with Vitamin E and Hyaluronic Acid and you can feel the benefits as soon as you apply it. Not only does it look good, but it nourishes and moisturizes.
It is available in six shades, including 01, the perfect neutral for summer.
Ecooking Lipstick 3.5ml (various shades), lookfantastic.com, £18.
Tropic Kiss Me Quick Lipstick is another super moisturizing product. Available in 12 colors from vibrant shimmers to subtle nudes, all shades are available in satin, matte or sheer finishes.
Guavaberry is a fabulous shade of summer; a glorious red with hints of coral.
Kiss Me Quick Lipstick, Tropic Skincare (tropicskincare.com), £20.
I love a multifunctional product and CODE Hydrate Tint Glow It is one of the best. It can be used on the lips and cheeks to add a soft touch of color or can be built on for a more dramatic look.
It contains vegan and natural ingredients that hydrate the skin and, with a smooth and silky satin texture, it is easy to apply.
CODE HTG Hydrate Tint Glow, CODE Beautiful (code-beautiful.com), £24.
As thorough as your morning skincare routine is, your face can easily become dry throughout the day. A face mist can give your skin a quick boost of moisture.
Weleda Moisturizing Face Mist Contains nopal extract, described as nature’s answer to hyaluronic acid. You can wear it under or over makeup, making it a great product to have in your bag during the summer.
Nopal Hydrating Face Mist, Weleda (weleda.co.uk), £16.95.
And finally, two fabulous products for summer nails.
the Neon set from IPO encapsulate a summer vibe in two fabulous nail colors: VI Passes Pink and Dance Party Teal Dawn. The duo comes with some cute little pink nail decals.
OPI PUMP Neon Collection Nail Art Duo Pack #1, beautybase.com, £27.80.
Once you’ve perfected your nail polish, or even if you prefer natural nails, keep your cuticles moisturized to avoid rough spots that can snag and hurt.
Tropic Organic Nail Nectar is a beautiful nail and cuticle oil infused with star and almond oil to soften and strengthen nail beds.
Organic Nail Nectar 10ml Nail & Cuticle Oil, Tropic Skincare (tropicskincare.com), £8.
And that’s it for my summer recap.
