Our “Best Room In” column offers an inside look at some of the world’s most charming, luxurious and iconic properties.
For those headed to parisIt will come as no surprise that the city has a plethora of fabulous hotels on the Left and Right Banks and dotted throughout the spiraling districts. How is it possible for one to know where to choose? Decisions are made easy with a little direction, and we’re pointing that toward newly opened Hotel Madame Reve, the sparkling new gem of a 1st arrondissement room…which just so happens to be located in a post office. With stunning views of the city and a rooftop lounge that’s sure to be the hot spot of the summer, it’s not to be missed. Here, we caught up with René Blino, General Manager of Hôtel Madame Rêve to delve into what sets this new hotspot apart from the rest.
What do you consider to be the best room in the property and why?
Our mythical room is the “Suite Madame Rêve Vue Exceptionnelle avec Terrasse” which bears the name of the hotel. This suite offers a magnificent view of the Church of Saint Eustatius that you can admire from your bed, as well as from its beautiful terrace. It also offers not only a view of Saint Eustache, but also a 180-degree view of Paris.
How much is it per night?
The suite is priced at 1,800 euros per night (approx. $1,932 USD).
How would you describe the guests staying at the hotel and the general atmosphere/vibe?
Our guests are usually couples on a getaway in the city of lovers. We also have families visiting the city of lights. We not only offer our guests rooms and beds, but true moments of life.
What do you think gives the hotel such a unique identity?
Madame Rêve is a journey. From the ground floor to the third floor, you travel back in time. The ground floor is immersed in a historical decoration in homage to the Louvre post office dating from the 19th century (1888). You will be very surprised when you take the elevator that transports you from the 19th to the 21st century on just 3 floors. Also, unlike other hotels, Madame Rêve offers a radical and unprecedented view of Paris. From sunrise to sunset, our guests can admire a panorama of exceptional views from the balconies of the rooms.
What local attractions do you always recommend to guests?
We are lucky to be in the heart of Paris. The first district is a lively and commercial area with so many beautiful things to discover. We often suggest our guests to visit the Pinault Collection, which is located just a 2-minute walk from the hotel. For shopping lovers, we suggest a visit to the samaritan which is a 5 minute walk from the hotel.
We are also close to the famous Louvre Museum that you cannot miss when you come to visit Paris, it is one of the most beautiful museums in the city. Being very close to the Marais, we also recommend pleasant walks through the pedestrian streets of this colorful and diverse district.
What sets Madame Reve apart from its peers in the area?
What sets us apart from our competitors, aside from the “savoir-faire français” displayed throughout the hotel, is the atmosphere and ambiance that emerges as soon as you open the door. Warmly paneled in wood, all the rooms offer an enveloping and luxurious dimension and most of them open onto a terrace, a rarity in Paris. In the heart of the city and under the sky, the Madame Rêve hotel is a unique discovery for all lovers of Paris.
the 1St. (arrondissement) has changed a lot in the last decade. How does Madame Reve contribute to the new feel of the neighborhood and how does she think the area will continue to evolve?
The first district is the historic district of Paris. After all, we are following in the footsteps of Louis XIV! Madame Rêve does not go against the history of France, on the contrary, she continues it. Located in a historic building, in a historic neighborhood, with historic decor. Our hotel is a reference to history, the history of France. So, I will refer to the trip that I mentioned earlier. We are in a historic setting, but offer a new view once you get to the third floor! An innovative vision that evolves with the neighborhood. Our top floor restaurant is a fusion between Japan and France, La Plume illustrates our journey and this innovation that pushes cultures to intermingle for a better future.
