Volleyball kicks off conference play with two games against Dayton

Bronx, NY – Fordham Volleyball (6-5) kicks off Atlantic 10 play this weekend with a rematch of last year’s championship, hosting Dayton (6-7) on Friday and Saturday. Start times are 6 pm and 2 pm, respectively.

The Rams lost to Sacred Heart in straight sets and in four to Yale and Villanova at the Yale Invitational last weekend.

The Flyers have a 44-1 series lead since the Rams joined the Atlantic 10 for the 1995 season. Fordham’s only victory came in 1997 in five sets at home. The rookie outside hitter became the fifth Ram to win multiple Rookie of the Week awards, doing so twice in the first three weeks of the season. Brown posted consecutive 14-kill efforts at the UND Classic, hitting a super-efficient .463 on 54 strikes over the weekend, including a .565 mark in the sweep of North Dakota.

grumpy whitley Named A-10 Player of the Week

The junior outside hitter earned her second career Player of the Week honor after leading the Rams to four wins in four days from August to September, amassing 54 kills, 35 digs, five blocks and four aces, averaging . 4.32 points per set.

USMC/AVCA Team Scholar Award

For the third year in a row and fourth time in the past five years, the Rams earned a United States Marine Corps/American Volleyball Coaches Association team academic award with a 3.3 or higher GPA for the entire 2021 academic year -22. 12 student-athletes were also placed on the Atlantic 10 Commissioner’s Honor Roll, which requires a GPA of 3.0 or better for the year.

Atlantic 10 Preseason Poll

The league’s head coaches voted in the annual preseason poll, and Fordham was chosen to finish seventh. Dayton was selected to successfully defend their title, earning eight first-place votes, with VCU earning the other two votes and being picked second, followed by newcomers Loyola Chicago in third.
